Global Stocktake

The Global Stocktake will review collective progress towards meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement and should include progress towards the social and environmental principles included in the preamble. Achieving the goal of global temperature rise of no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius is key to realization of human rights. The Global Stocktake is mandated to inform the preparation of future NDCs, and thus is vital to achieving this temperature goal as well as the principles of the UNFCCC. As such in conducting the Global Stocktake, in addition to the principles laid out in Article 14, including, critically it being based on the principle of equity and best available science, the Stocktake should review climate action both quantitatively and in light of the principles in the preamble. This will also help ensure that climate action is integrated with other aspects of sustainable development and promoting international policy coherence. This holistic approach to the Global Stocktake will ensure the integration of climate action and rights, and therefore the realization of all the goals of the Paris Agreement.
